Scientific perspective
Different aerosols, including sulfate aerosols, black carbon, yellow dust, and organic aerosols, contribute to global dimming in Korea by reducing sunlight at the surface. They affect air quality, clouds, precipitation, and temperature, making Korea’s climate system harder to predict and manage.

Climate perspective
Global dimming affects Korea’s climate system by weakening the water cycle, increasing regional climate instability, and partially masking the effects of global warming. Aerosols and fine dust reduce solar radiation reaching Earth’s surface, altering temperature, precipitation, and cloud formation patterns across the Korean Peninsula. Although these particles can temporarily cool the atmosphere, reducing aerosol levels may unintentionally accelerate surface warming, creating complex climate challenges and long-term environmental uncertainty in Korea.

Economic perspective
Global dimming creates major economic challenges in Korea by reducing agricultural productivity, increasing food prices, raising healthcare costs, and disrupting industrial stability.
